3x08//3x09

I’m actually torn about the scene with Cat… In the books it is said that she and Ned had a bedding ceremony and it’s said exactly in that chapter.

So, by Ned forbidding it they drew a parallel between Sansa/Tyrion and Cat/Ned. Which I like. Which I actually love. :)

On the other hand… Hm. They shouldn’t have changed it. Because they were clearly trying to make Ned more honorable and worthy… by modern standards. But Ned is a man who lived in a different time, in a different culture. He was all about following the rituals, obeying the laws, respecting the customs of his ancestors. For him it was important to have that bond to the bast. The show removed all that and made him more of a progressive figure. And it’s just not who Ned is, his vision of being honorable means staying true to the past. So you see why I thought the producers kinda devalued his character with that seemingly admirable story.

Plus, that scene made it sound as if any decent husband would forbid the bedding ceremony. Which is not true to the reality of the novels. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Tyrion is only husband we ever see forbidding the ceremony. As casual as it seems for us, his deed was unique for his culture and I’d like that acknowledged.
